Week 1. Role of Technology and Media

When I began this technology class I didn't know what to expect." However I met", this very enthusiastic teacher by the name of Mrs.Roberts. She began the class by introducing herself and then allowed us to introduce ourselves using the first letter of our names. After she gave us a brief synopsis of the course outline. It's amazing how technology can enhance our classroom experience.

Week 1: Gmail and Hotmail Account

Task: Create email accounts:

.Gmail with contacts and group contact list.
.Hotmail with contacts and group contact list

Steps:

Creating a gmail account:

1.Go to www.live.com

2.Complete the general information.

3.Sign into the email account created.

4.Click on the drop down menu/apps icon.

5.Select contacts 

6.Add each individual email using the new contacts group/list feature.

7.Using manage or more tab you may import contacts from another email account.

The challenges I encountered while completing the task are:

1.Having to create a gmail account.
2.Knowing how to locate and add contact list
I however researched on you tube how to create a Gmail and Hotmail account and I successfully created my account.

I learnt how to effectively create contact list using my android devices . It was definitely a learning experience knowing that I could use emails to communicate .
In the near future I will use this medium to correspond with my students. To send and receive messages from them .Its an absolute great feeling knowing I can send emails to all my students at once without having to individually search for each of their emails.

Technology enhances and improves learning.This week we focused on differentiating between old and new technology.We explored technological devices from the 19th,20th and 21st century.

Examples of old technology : floppy disc,cassette,video cassette,erasers, micro computers ,stereo graph,IBM etc.
Examples of new technology:memory card,smartphones,tablets,I pads,internet, flash drives etc.

Week 1: Learning,Learning styles,Multiple Intelligence and Learning Theories:

Types of Learners :

1. Active, Reflective,Sensing,Intuitive,Visual,Verbal

The different types of learning styles :
1.Auditory
2.Visual
3.Kinaesthetic

Four main theories:

1. Behaviorism
2. Constructivism
3. Cognitivism
4.Social-psychological

According to Howard Gardener:

The nine multiple intelligence's are:
1.Naturalist
2.Musical
3.Logical mathematical
4.Extential
5.Interpersonal
6.Bodily
7.Linguiistic
8. Spatial Intelligence
9.Interpersonal

Conclusion : Its amazing how much I've learnt over the past week , mainly about how to effectively integrate technology in my class so as to make teaching a fun learning activity.
